Have you ever dreamed of a tornado going through your wedding, literally? What about your mother breaking down on the kitchen floor of the reception site?
These are just a few of the things that we deal with on a weekly basis. I'll tell you the story of the tornado bride and then you can decide if we are the types of planners you want to use. She met us for the first time at a coffee shop with her fiance' the month before her wedding. She broke down crying right there, sobbing in public because she was so stressed out over her wedding. Everything was falling apart! Her photographer messed up her engagements and bridals, and her florist wasn't returning any of her calls. She didn't know any details and felt totally frazzled. I assured her we could help... I knew we could.
We took over all of the flowers because that's one of our specialties, and we quickly found her a new photographer that gave her a significant discount because she wasn't going to get her deposit back. Those two issues settled, we moved onto the wedding day schedule and flow and proceeded as we normally do, organizing and detailing her wedding.
Day of the wedding gets here... it's stormy and windy and just not the most beautiful day but hey, it's winter, so we take it and go on. As I leave the reception site and work my way to the church, a tornado is touching down about a mile away from the church. I hear this over the radio and floor it to the church. I make it to the church and literally run with emergency kit, clipboard and shoes in hand to beat the tornado that is ripping through the apartment complex across the street. At this point I'm running for my life! I get in the church and I'm sopping wet. We are starting the ceremony in 20 minutes. I'm concerned for the safety of all, so we start checking out flashlights, evac. plans, etc. and all along the bride is oblivious to the tornado. She is safely tucked away in the safest room of the church along with her bridesmaids. I get into the bathroom to remove my nylons, get my spare pair of shoes out and try to put on another coat of make up and a happy face. We get the okay from the authorities that the tornado has lifted and only damaged the apartments across the street and a few shops along the way, and thankfully we are unharmed. I move into ceremony mode and we proceed just as planned.
My beautiful blushing bride was never aware of the disaster until after the ceremony. When I told her what took place she was so thankful that no one was hurt and no one told her because, admittedly, she would have lost it! We had a wonderful ceremony and reception despite the impending natural disaster that hovered over us, and we are confident that there isn't a disaster too big for us to handle. We look forward to having you as one of our brides!
